How ShipGenius differs
ShipGenius provides its own UPS and USPS accounts, so discounted rates are there the first time you rate a shipment. You don't sign a carrier contract or link a carrier login to get them.
How it works
ShipGenius provides its own UPS and USPS accounts. Rate a shipment on the ship page and the ShipGenius rates come back in the same list as any carrier accounts you've connected. You don't need a carrier account of your own to buy a discounted label.
Rates are worked out for each shipment when you rate it. Weight, dimensions, zone and surcharges such as residential delivery all change the price, so the same box can price differently from one address to the next.
What each rate shows
- Account: Which account the rate uses, so you can tell a ShipGenius rate from one on your own account.
- Saving: How much less the rate is than the carrier's retail price.
- Price breakdown: The charges that make up the total.
Which rates you see
The rates you get depend on your account type. Business accounts see commercial rates plus negotiated rates, and their USPS rates are labelled USPS NSA.
After you buy
Every shipment record keeps the billing weight and the itemized charges for the label. Billing weight is the dimensional weight when that is higher than the actual weight, which is the most common reason a rate is higher than expected.
