Packout

Pack orders one at a time or in bulk. Scan each item into a carton, choose the box, then ship and print the label from the same screen. Orders in batches flow automatically based on your own settings. The layout works on desktop, a tablet, or mobile views.

How ShipGenius differs

The same packout screen runs everywhere your team packs. From the browser, to the desktop, to the phone. It works with a hardware barcode scanner, a tablet or phone camera, Bluetooth label printers, thermal label printers, and more. Scan-verify blocks typed and pasted SKUs and refuses non-exact matches. Every packed item is confirmed by a scan.

How it works

Scan or search for a batch or order on the Fulfill page to start packing. Packout walks you through three steps: scan the items, pick the carton, and ship.

Scan items

Every scan is checked against the order. If you scan an item that isn’t on the order, you’ll hear a warning and it won’t be added. With scan-verify turned on, SKUs can’t be typed or pasted in, so every item has to be scanned.

Pick a carton

Pick a box from your consumables, ship the item in its own box, or enter custom dimensions. You can use as many cartons as the order needs, and it saves which items went in each carton.

Ship

The ship checklist shows you what’s left before the order can ship and what’s blocking it, including customs for international orders. If auto-ship is on, the label prints as soon as the last item is packed.

When an order can’t ship

  • Hold: If the carrier ejects the shipment, the order goes on hold and a 4x6 hold label prints with the reason, the carrier error, and a QR code to pull up the order.
  • Short ship: Ship an order without all of its items. This needs the short ship permission.
  • Supervisor approval: If a packer doesn’t have permission for an action, a supervisor can approve it right on the packer’s screen with their authenticator, SMS, or email code. The approval lasts up to an hour.

Works on any device

Packout works in the browser, the desktop app for Mac, Windows, and Linux, and the iPhone app. The layout adjusts for desktop, tablet, and phone. You can scan with a barcode scanner, a webcam, or your phone’s camera. Bench mode hides the navigation so packout takes up the whole screen. The desktop app prints labels straight to your printer as ZPL or PDF.

Batches

When every order in a batch is similar, packout switches to a faster mode. Single-item and same-SKU batches turn into a scan queue. Mass batches let you select a carton, rate, and ship a group of identical orders at once. You can print every label in a batch at the end.

Packer settings

Each packer can set:

  • Auto-ship, auto-validate addresses, skip completed orders, require scan-verify, show order notes, and scan sounds
  • Label and packing slip printers, label format, and scale

Admins can lock auto-ship and auto-validate for the whole account.
