Shipping plans

A shipping plan is a named set of carrier services an order may use, plus a return facility. Assign one to an order or to a marketplace seller source.

How ShipGenius differs

ShipGenius shipping plans allow you to customize fulfillment of orders while not having to make extensive changes to your Rate Groups. The same Rate Group can be applied to many orders even if some of those orders only allow a subset of the carrier services through a Shipping Plan. Anywhere you rate shop an order, you will see a greyed out box with the filtered out services on the order. A clean distinction between what is allowed and not allowed on each order.

How it works

A shipping plan is a named list of the carrier services an order is allowed to ship with. Create one in Settings, under Shipping plans. Give it a name, check the services it allows, and pick a return facility if you want one.

Services are grouped by carrier account. Each of your own carrier accounts has a group, and the ShipGenius UPS and USPS rates have their own, so you choose exactly which services count.

Where plans are assigned

  • Orders: Set the Shipping plan in the Shipping section when you create or edit an order.
  • Marketplace sources: On a marketplace integration, use Assign shipping plans to give each seller source a plan. Orders imported from that source get it.
  • Workflows: Add a shipping plan to a workflow to automatically assign them based on any filter or field you desire.

When the order is rated

Only the services on the plan are rated. If the order uses a rate group, only the group's services that are also on the plan are rated. Services the plan rules out are listed under Not allowed for this order with the reason, so you can see that the plan removed them.

If you try to ship an order with a service that isn't on its plan, the label isn't bought and the error names the plan.

Return facility

When a plan has a return facility, that facility's address is used as the return address when its orders are rated and shipped.
